Wendy qualified as a therapist in body massage in 2012 and studied Aromatherapy the following year and then went on to create her own therapy room at her home. She soon became a member of the charity Healing Hands Network and travelled to Sarajevo, Bosnia as a volunteer, massaging the victims of the Bosnian war of the early 90s. With a keen interest in the arts, Wendy enjoyed visiting lectures and critiques at the local art school back home in Winchester. Life changed when cancer struck. Plans were soon put on hold and new ones were discovered. During chemotherapy, Wendy’s massage therapist suggested yoga and after the treatment finished, she decided to treat herself to a yoga holiday to La Gomera with Yoga teacher Angus. Angus opened her eyes and heart to the spiritual side of life and so Wendy’s love of the whole yoga scene was set. The enthusiasm continued with further yoga holidays in Malaga, Turkey, Italy & France.
Neville has a background in landscaping and set up his own business age 22 after buying his uncles truck and employing a laborer. Complete Contractors was born and that was over 30 years ago!
Alongside working, Neville’s passion was playing cricket for a local team in Winchester. Long retired from playing, Neville is now a keen supporter of most sports, and enjoys watching his sons play cricket in the UK. Neville had since joined a local cricket club in France as a club member, helping to maintain the grounds. The cold wet winter weather in the UK made the thought of following Wendy’s dream of running a retreat more appealing to him.
Joining Wendy and Neville in France is the family dog, Gem. Gem is a beautiful curly coated rottie age 10. Gem loves people and whilst she will be mainly away from guests, especially during meal times, she is part of life at Haven on the Hill. When Gem is not by Wendy’s side she can be found dozing under shady trees and if you’re lucky she may even join you on a walk into the woods… if she’s not already there herself!
